Planning a safari in Tanzania begins with securing the right visa. Grafton Safaris streamlines this process by guiding you through Tanzania’s electronic visa system, advising on requirements, and providing the necessary documentation for a hassle-free application.

1. Understand Tanzania Visa Options

Tanzania offers multiple visa categories based on travel purpose and duration.

Choose the Tourist Visa for your Grafton-led safari, or explore business and transit options if they apply to your trip.

2. Gather Required Documents

Before submitting your application, ensure you have:

  • A passport valid for at least six months beyond your departure date

  • One digital, passport-style photo (≤300 KB, JPEG or PNG)

  • A clear scan of your passport’s biometric data page

  • Your confirmed safari itinerary and proof of accommodation

  • Grafton Safaris’ official Visa Application Letter

Our concierge team issues your Visa Application Letter roughly two months before departure, giving you ample time to apply

3. Apply Online via the eVisa System
  1. Tanzania’s eVisa portal handles applications electronically, eliminating embassy visits. To begin: Visit https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/  and select “Apply for a New Visa.”

  2. Enter your email, create a security question, and note your Application ID.

  3. Complete all personal, passport, and travel itinerary sections.

  4. Upload a passport-style photo (≤300 KB) and a scan of your passport’s biometric page.

  5. Provide Grafton Safari Company’s host details (we supply these).

  6. Pay the $50 USD fee via Visa or MasterCard.

  7. Submit and await approval—most eVisas arrive within 2–7 business day

4. Visa on Arrival: A Backup Option

If you miss the eVisa window, Tanzania allows visa-on-arrival at major airports and land borders for many nationalities. You’ll need:

  • $50 USD cash (exact amount recommended)

  • The same documents as for the eVisa application

  • Patience for potential queue times

We strongly recommend the online eVisa to avoid delays and ensure seamless entry

5. Timing and Final Checks

Start your eVisa application at least three weeks before your flight to accommodate processing times and any follow-up queries. Always:

  • Carry printed and digital copies of your visa, passport, and itinerary

  • Confirm your passport has six months’ validity remaining

  • Notify your bank of international travel to keep cards active

  • Register your trip with your embassy or consulate

With these steps completed, you’re ready to focus on the thrill of Tanzania’s wildlife.
